Its name has become synonymous with native son Salvador Dalí, but is there more? Figueres, the capital of the Alt Empordá region of Cataluña, comprising the upper half of the alluvial plains created by the Ríos Fluvià and Muga, is not a bad place to spend an afternoon, maybe a night. It does have an entertaining central promenade, the little sister of Barcelona’s and also called La Rambla as it once marked the course of a stream. Along its sides are cafés named Dalí and Dalí gift shops and art galleries as well as the Museu de l’Empordà with archeological relics found in the region, medieval sculpture, Baroque and 19th- and 20th-century paintings
